What Octant is, where our data comes from, how scoring and disputes work, and how to buy.
Octant Commercial Intelligence is an independent business-information provider. We assemble business credit reports, risk scores, KYB (know-your-business) verification and continuous monitoring from public registers, licensed data and consented trade experience — so credit, procurement and compliance teams can assess a counterparty and decide with confidence.
Facts come from official registries and authoritative public sources — GLEIF LEI records, SEC EDGAR, Companies House, OpenCorporates, EU VIES and OpenSanctions — plus licensed/partner feeds and trade-payment experience contributed under agreement. Every field we publish carries its source and an as-of date.
No. Octant is a business-to-business service covering companies, not consumers. We report on registered businesses for permissible business risk-assessment (credit, procurement, KYB, compliance). We are not a consumer-reporting agency and our service is not a consumer report under the FCRA or equivalent regimes.
The score is a transparent 0–100 modeled estimate built from identity, registration status, financials, liens and charges, court records, directors/ownership and sanctions signals. Each score comes with reason codes and a recommended trade-credit limit. It is a modeled estimate, not a fact or a guarantee of future payment — we label it as such everywhere. Our methodology is published on the Data & methodology page.
Any business can request a free copy of its own report, dispute any field it believes is inaccurate, and receive a re-investigation within 30 days. If we got it wrong we correct it, re-run the score, and notify anyone who received the affected report. Start at the Accuracy & disputes page.
Each datapoint shows its source and the date it was retrieved. Registry data is pulled live or near-live; monitoring re-checks watched entities on a schedule and raises an alert when something material changes. Monitored-report subscribers always see the as-of stamp.
There is a free public-record lookup for any business. Paid access is per-report (from $29) or by subscription (Team from $499/month; Business from $1,499/month) with volume and monitoring included. Enterprise is custom. Checkout is handled securely by Stripe, and a paid plan provisions an API key instantly.
Yes. A REST API with JSON responses and webhooks covers reports, scores, monitoring and KYB verification. It is available on Team and Business plans and as committed volume on Enterprise. See the API page for endpoints and examples.
You add customers and suppliers to a watchlist; we re-check them on a schedule and alert you to new filings, liens and charges, status changes, director changes and adverse signals. Alerts are delivered by email (with webhooks available on request).
We use encryption in transit, least-privilege access and audit logging, and gate all access behind a permissible-purpose agreement. We minimise data, follow retention schedules, and align with GDPR/CCPA. See our Privacy policy and Data & compliance pages.
